On 12th September, the LISBibliometrics conference, an established gathering for Bibliometrics and Scientometrics practitioners, was held at the University of Brighton. The theme “Exploring the Bibliometric Universe” focused on diverse topics including research culture measurement, indicators, AI methodologies, research integrity, and addressing societal issues using bibliometrics.
Dr Angelo Salatino was invited to speak on the influence of diverse expertise within research teams on scientific impact.
The conference featured three prominent keynotes. Prof. Jennifer Byrne (University of Sydney, AU) explored paper mills, the difficulty in identifying them, the motivations behind this misconduct, and potential solutions. Dr Álvaro Cabezas Clavijo (International University of La Rioja, ES) examined the connection between bibliometrics and research evaluation, while Prof. Caroline Wagner (The Ohio State University, USA) discussed how bibliometrics aid decision-making.
Additional talks included Dr Angela McGuire’s presentation, from Elsevier, on using indicators to create impact stories and Euan Adie’s talk, from Overton, on opportunities provided by policy documents and mapping scholars to them.
We were also thrilled to hear from Jason Priem (OurResearch) about the latest developments in OpenAlex. At SKM3, we are big fans of OpenAlex and rely on it heavily for our research. It was particularly gratifying to see Jason highlight the AIDA Dashboard as a prime example of OpenAlex’s dataset in action. (Thank you, Jason!)
